1. Introduction


Fossil fuels are running out rapidly. The vehicles that use oil from fossil fuels will give out carbon dioxide. This emission may affect both our environment and its organisms. Undoubtedly, it is a necessity to find an alternative energy. With biodiesel, people would be able to use green energy to replace diesel.
Nowadays, the world tries to live by these 3Rs, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. By reusing the wasted oil, we recycle it to produce biodiesel. It enhances the vehicles' engine by making it more efficient, hence reducing the emissions given out.
An aim for our experiments was to introduce a simple method of reusing used leftover cooking oils(wasted cooking oil) and convert it to biodiesel. Just by mixing wasted cooking oil with sodium hydroxide and methanol, biodiesel will be obtained from the chemical reaction of sodium hydroxide and the selected type of oil. Then the calorimetry test could help us to define the best oil for biodiesel production.
Undoubtedly, biodiesel is beneficial as it has ability to dissolve crude oil that can be used to clean oil spills. Also, it has a higher buoyancy than crude oil that aids in a removal of oil.





This is the basic concept of our project.
